CHARITY GOLF CHALLENGE Update

GOLF MARATHON RAISES OVER £5,000

 The RWM of Lodge St. Andrew (Denny & Loanhead) No. 176 Bro. Archie Mackay has raised over £5,000 for Strathcarron Hospice after successfully playing 110 holes of golf in one day.

The challenge, in memory of his late father-in-law Peter Young, was a repeat of a charity golf marathon he achieved 40 years ago.

Archie started his first round at 4.30am last Friday, 21st June 2024, with his son, also Archie, a 176 PM. Five other club members played subsequent rounds and the final putt was sunk at 9.35pm with cheers from the clubhouse and piper Kevin McLean playing Highland Cathedral.

Archie said: “I was exhausted and exhilarated in equal measure but also overwhelmed by the support that I received both in financial terms and the courtesy of others on the golf course who allowed me to play through.

“I have surpassed my target of £3,000 by over a third and when Gift Aid is added have raised over £5,000 for the hospice. We would like to thank all who donated.”

The fund will remain open until the end of July.
